I've just watched episode 3 of season 3 of Miraculous Ladybug, and after a page break (because this will be spoilery) I'll be giving my immediate reactions. Don't expect a full-length review; I just can't keep up with doing that given this month's schedule. Still, here we go...
Well, that happened. One of the oddest episodes I can remember, really. We didn't see Adrien at all (so no Plagg, boo hiss) and nor did we see the akumatisation. I found the brat, er, Chris to be distinctly unlikeable, so even though he redeemed himself a bit at the end I still hope we don't see too much more of Nino's little brother. Santa Claus returned (sort of) with a sleigh pulled by flying catfish, because why not? And Ladybug is apparently the best behaved kid in the world. Which she clearly isn't, for anyone who remembers her stealing Adrien's phone and not owning up to it many episodes ago.
Several people have said that the animation was noticeably smoother in this episode. I confess that I didn't actually notice, but on the other hand I didn't notice it not being smooth. It did the job fine. We got a Cataclysm with Cat Noir wearing a Santa hat, too, so I can't be too harsh. But overall? This felt like out-and-out filler. Maybe there'll be comeback on something later, but I can't see it. Not one of the strongest Miraculous episodes in my book. Good job it's only a few days until the next one!
Quote: "That's where you're wrong, Ladybug. You've just brought me my second gift, which only goes to show what a good Hawk Moth I've been this year." Okaaaaay then.
